Text

The simplest way to feed your assistant. Type or paste the content, give it a title, hit save. Best for content that lives only in your head or in a doc you don't publish anywhere else.

On this page

Why use this

  • The content doesn't exist as a web page or document yet — you're capturing knowledge that's only in your head.
  • You want full control over the title and the wording the AI sees.
  • You need to edit the content later directly in Echo, not from another source.
  • You want to keep an FAQ tight and focused — one question per item.

How it works

You provide a title (up to 500 characters) and a body (up to 500 KB of text). Echo indexes both, embeds them for semantic search, and stores them in the assistant's content library. The AI uses the title to match questions and the body to compose answers.

Text items are the only manual type you can edit directly in Echo after creation. URL, YouTube, and PDF content is read-only — text is not.

How it differs from related options

  • vs URL upload — URL fetches and indexes a live web page, with a refreshable source link. Text has no source link and stays exactly as you wrote it.
  • vs PDF upload — PDF preserves formatted documents (tables, headings, structure) better than copy-pasted text. If you have a PDF, upload the PDF.
  • vs CSV import — CSV is the bulk version of text. If you have 20+ text items to add, use CSV instead of typing one at a time.

Step-by-step setup

  1. Open the assistant and go to Contents.
  2. Click Add content and select Text.
  3. Enter a clear, descriptive title (up to 500 characters). This is what the AI matches questions against — be specific.
  4. Write or paste the body. Plain text is fine; basic line breaks are preserved.
  5. Click Save.

The content is indexed immediately and available in the next conversation. To edit later, click the item in your content library.

Title matters
The AI uses your title to score how well an item matches an incoming question. "Pricing" is OK; "Pricing for the Pro plan in 2026" is better.

Common errors and troubleshooting

  • "Content too long" — bodies max out at 500 KB. Split the content into two or more focused items, one topic each.
  • "Title required" — the title field can't be empty. Add a one-line summary.
  • The AI doesn't use my new content — check the Enabled switch on the item. Disabled items stay in the library but are excluded from answers.
  • The AI uses old content instead — old items haven't been removed automatically. Disable or delete the outdated entries.
  • "At content limit" — your plan caps total items across all assistants. Upgrade your plan or delete unused entries.
